Who the hell...

Text and photos (c) Robert Barry Francos

Back in the 1980s, I went to a conference to promote the USO in New York's Times Square, filled with musicians and radio DJs from big '70s arena bands, most of whom I just don't care about... so all these years later, I have no idea who most of them are. Can people please resond and let me know who they are and what bands they were from? I think there are some members of Kansas and the like. Eagles? Not a clue.

The only ones I do know are Stephen Stills, and Cheap Trick members Robin Zander, Rick Nielsen, and Bun E. Carlos. When I get everyone's names, I'll put up more of the photos. Thanks for your help, everyone!

  3. Middle pic, top right...could that be Lou Reed? He looks a bit too fat. The dude with the microphone...Dickey Betts?

  4. Okay, I'm definitely sure that's not Lou Reed. He was very thin at this time.

As for Dickie Betts, I'm not sure. Maybe? Anyone want to confirm?

  6. Thanks, but that doesn't really help. Having a first name doesn't identify their affiliation (band, radio station, etc). If it was a last name, I may have a better chance. I appreciate the thought, though!

  9. Picture 1 Back left is Mike Slamer and Front right with the white collar is Steve Walsh. Picture 2 Second in front row is Steve Walsh again. Picture 3 back left is Tim Gehrt. Steve formed a band called "Streets" after he left Kansas and before he went back again. Mike was the guitarist and Tim (my dad) was the drummer. They were on a USO tour with Cheap Trick, who are the other guys I didn't name in the other pictures. If you have any other photos I'd love for you to send some to me!
